| Its pretty hard to get by on the internet these days without AOL Instant Messenger. But if you are anything like me, you hate the new breed of internet ads that attempt to force you to pay attention by commandeering your speakers. So, why not just cut out all of the ads? If you try using another AIM client like Gaim or Trillian you can cut out all ads and gain some nice new features. | ||||

| You can use Gaim to talk to buddies that use different chat programs. Currently Gaim supports: AIM, ICQ, MSN messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber and more. You can set it to log you into all of these accounts automatically. Gaim is available for Windows and several different Linux distributions, so you can use the same familiar interface even if you switch between a few different OSs. There is even a Portable Windows version that will run from a thumb drive, so you only have to configure the program in one place. | ||||

I like Gaim because of the tabbed conversations. You can
set Gaim to load messages from buddies in windows according to the group
you have them in on your buddy list. If you want to consolidate windows,
drag tabs from one window to another. Drop a tab onto the desktop to create
a new window.
