The Microsoft XboX is an excellent gaming system, but the addition of a mod chip unlocks many new features that help you enjoy your system more. Once of my favorite applications that you can use after modifying your system is XboX Media Center (XBMC). With this program you can play all different types of music and movie files, view pictures and even get the weather, on your TV screen.

I haven't personally tried to compile the version that is available on the official website, because a compiled version is available on the internet if you look hard enough. Once you upload the compiled program to your APPS folder, you can modify your evox.ini to show XBMC instead of XBMP or just access it from the system settings.
This program can connect to various types of network shares, and can play videos and music over the network with no skipping. If you have a Digital Video Recorder setup that can share files on the network, or an HTPC (home theater PC) this is the perfect device to create another viewing area for your shows. The controls from a gamepad are great, including: skip a few seconds at a time, volume control, and progressive fast forward and rewind.
This program seems to be the basis for the XboX 360's file sharing with Windows Media Center, but much less limited. You would be surprised how useful you can make your first generation XboX with this application.
