When I was adding power connectors to the power supply
cables for the Hard Disk Wiping Station
I had this idea. The idea was for individual power splitters for you hard
drive cages. The splitters would have exactly the number of connectors
that you needed for the number of drives, and they would be spaced out
perfectly to reach them all. Since then, all of the major power supply
companies are building modular power supplies. All of the cables are detachable
and you can use only the cables you need. These are a good idea, but you
can make these little splitters and save yourself the money. If your computer
has a hard drive cage and a block of four 5 1/4 bays up front, you can
make a few of these and eliminate a lot of wire clutter.

| All you need to do this mod is a couple of 90 degree Molex connecters, a Molex extension cable (if you can find one), and the drives you are going to connect, all mounted in their bays (for measuring purposes). This cage is from a junker I picked up. The 90 degree Molex connecters are from another junker I picked up. | ||||||

| These connecters are easy to attach. All you have to do is match up the red and yellow (orange on this one) wires with their correct side. |

In this example I only needed 3 connectors, and the
wire I was using already had one male and a female.

You can do this with other wires if you want.
I cut wires out of power supplies before I throw them out. This way I
can use the long strings of connecters, all I have to do is add a female
connecter on the end and maybe rearrange the others.

Once all the connecters are attached, you can put
the cage back in the computer. I like having these in my computers because
it makes it easy to remove the drive cages. Molex connecters can be very
difficult to remove. This way you only have to pull apart one connection
and then remove the cage.
