| The idea to do this really came from the materials. I was walking around Skycraft one day, and I found this box of heatsinks. I picked up these ones and thought that they looked like they were about 3 1/2 inches across. $1 was written on the back of each of them with a grease pencil. I figured I could slap them on the backs of my hard drives, then put them back in their cage and let the 2 case fans blow air over them. It just seemed too cheap and simple to pass up. I bought them thinking that I would have to cut some of the fins off and maybe drill some new holes. | ||||||

| I didn't actually take any pictures until I was finished, but here are the pictures of the finished product. I have no idea what these heatsinks were originally for, but they seem perfect for this. | ||||||

These holes were already there and they lined up perfectly
with some holes on the bottom of the drives. They just happened to center
the drives perfectly, so I just used those.

| I had to cut out some of the fins around the holes so that I could use regular hard drive screws. I used a Dremel to cut the fins, then I used the Dremel again to widen the holes because they were just a little too small. | ||||||

| And here is one of the heatsinks mounted on the bottom of an old Quantum Fireball that I used to use as a coaster. I don't really know why I keep it since I don't trust it to hold any data anymore, but it did come in handy for mocking these up. |
